The Mow Cop Killer Mile will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2025, starting from Scholar Green and finishing at Mow Cop Castle.
Registration for the Mow Cop Killer Mile 2025 opens on Monday, February 17th. Be sure to mark your calendar! We expect to sell out all tickets prior to the event start, so it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to register on the day of the event.

Participants aged 13 and older can run alone, while those under 12 must be accompanied by a responsible adult during the event for safety reasons.
Yes! Every participating runner will receive a commemorative medal to celebrate their achievement. Cash prizes will be awarded to the male and female record breakers, with times of 6:12 and 7:54, respectively. Additionally, awards will be given to the top three finishers and the first runner under 18 in the Elite Race. Trophies will be awarded in various age categories within the Elite Race, as well as to the first finishers (both male and female) in the Fun Runs and Junior Race. More details will be announced soon.
As the event approaches on May 8, 2025, participants can look forward to an enhanced experience thanks to a new sponsor, Chaffinch. This partnership aims to elevate the race atmosphere and provide additional resources.
Along with the sponsorship, there will be new awards and an increased prize fund, allowing for greater recognition of achievements across various categories. The event will also introduce fresh branding that embodies the spirit of the race, creating a more engaging identity.
Social media efforts will be expanded to foster community connections through interactive campaigns and to highlight participant stories as we get closer to race day.
Additionally, a redesigned website will serve as a central hub for all race-related information, making it easier for runners to access details, training tips, and registration information. Collectively, these enhancements aim to position the race as one of the toughest mile races in the UK while providing an unforgettable experience for runners of all levels.
Parking will be limited and available only along the roadside due to the event’s location in the village and the expected number of participants and spectators. We recommend using the designated drop-off points and planning your travel arrangements in advance to ensure a smooth experience for everyone involved.

Yes, there will be road closures along Drumber Lane, Station Road, Top Station Road, High Street, Lower High Street, and Birch Tree Lane. Additional closures may be added for better logistics.
The organisers prioritise runner safety with measures such as medical support along the course, volunteer marshals to guide participants, and road closures to minimise traffic during the race.
Your race number delivery depends on the option you selected during registration:
- If you chose to have your race number mailed to you, it will be sent out, and you should receive it before race day.
- If you opted for in-person pickup, please collect your race number from 5 pm on the day of the event until 30 minutes before your race starts.

Absolutely! The event is spectator-friendly, with many vantage points along the route for friends and family to cheer on participants. We kindly ask that spectators remain within designated areas for runner’s experience and safety.
Yes, there will be portaloos available at both the start and finish lines to accommodate participants and spectators. Additionally, the community church hall will also be open to the public for restrooms.
Yes, food and drink vendors will be present at the event, but we encourage runners to bring their own refreshments due to the route format and the number of participants. With a large turnout expected, it may be more convenient to have your own snacks and drinks on hand to stay energised throughout the event.
The event has been an annual tradition since 1982, and the 2025 event will mark the 37th gathering.
This event is known for its challenging uphill route, featuring a significant elevation gain of 570 feet and a steep incline of 25%. This combination tests runners’ endurance and strength like no other. The picturesque setting of Mow Cop and the vibrant atmosphere created by participants and spectators make it a truly unique experience.
Notable achievements include Roger Hackney setting an elite time of 6:17 in 1987, Bashir Hussain’s longstanding men’s record of 6:12 set in 1991, and Shireen Barbour recording the fastest women’s time of 7:54 in 1992.
